Blood Type Diet

Most of us out there who are interested in the latest diet have heard of the Blood Type diet and maybe have even tried it. But what is it about blood type that relates to the foods we eat? Diet inventor, Peter D'Adamo believes that lectins, a form of protein found in foods, can wreak havoc in the body if you eat a food containing lectins that are incompatible with your blood type.

His theory is that the lectins in certain foods can target an organ or system in the body and adversely affect blood cells in the area and possibly cause weight gain or disease. But with the diet, these negative effects can be avoided by focusing on foods that mesh with your blood type. So what does the diet propose for each type? Type O's are said to efficiently digest meats because they tend to have high levels of stomach acid and Type A's have low stomach acid and store meat as fat (apparently, Type O was the blood type of the earliest humans, who were skilled hunters and subsisted on a diet of wild game and edible plants growing wild in the forests and individuals with Type O blood thrive on animal flesh and vegetables).

The diet Type B blood is more varied than the other blood type diets. If you have Type B blood, you are encouraged to eat seafood, beef, lamb, and dairy products. Oats and millet, green vegetables, and all fruits are beneficial. And if you have Type AB blood are encouraged to eat lamb, turkey, cultured dairy products, eggs, rice, tofu, plums and cherries. So is it backed by any science? D'Adamo himself acknowledges that there is no scientific study that demonstrates that his program helps with weight loss or disease prevention, but he has posted 52 pages of references on his web site to back up his belief that blood type may be related to disease. More to come!

Stress And Relaxation

Symptoms of stress include irritability, muscular tension, the inability to concentrate and a wide variety of physical reactions, such as headaches and increased blood pressure and heart rate. Long term stress can also lower our immune systems, which consequently increases our chanced of picking up illnesses and diseases. Many experts also believe that stress can lead to increased risks of cancer and heart diseases.

A person suffering from stress typically uses the more emotional parts of their brain, shutting down the more logical side. This has the effect of lowering intelligence, and effecting judgement. People often make ‘rash decisions’ that they later regret, and sometimes wonder why they made them in the first place. Stress can seriously affect our performance at work, and our personal relationships.

We all have an Ultradian Rhythm, which is a 90-120 minute cycle of stress and relaxation. The relaxation dips are usually around 90 minutes apart. This is when your mind and body is telling you to slow down and relax. Typically you may find yourself daydreaming, which is a natural form of meditation and self hypnosis. Some people instead choose to carry out addictive behaviour, such as drinking, drugs, and smoking.

This is not healthy because aside from the physical harm such addictions present, there are also psychological problems that can manifest. A person cannot learn how to naturally deal with stress if they always turn to their addictions for a release. They do not adequately learn how to cope with the knocks that life inevitably presents. Instead they grow increasingly dependant on their addictions as a means of coping, which often creates many other problems in the long run, further perpetuating their addictions.

There are a number of ways that can help you manage your stress levels. Relaxation techniques taught in disciplines such as yoga and meditation are very effective. They give you valuable ‘time out’ to slow down and just ‘be’ for a while. Remember we are human ‘beings’ and not human ‘doings’. If a person does not wish to become involved in these disciplines, then they can at least learn simple breathing exercises, such as taking long slow breaths in through the nose, and out through the mouth. Doing this slowly whilst counting the breaths until 50 or 100 is an excellent quick relaxation tool that you can do practically anywhere.

You can also imagine floating off out of your body to a haven of relaxation. This can be somewhere unique to you. Somewhere that YOU associate with relaxation. It can be a real place that you have been to in the past, or an imagined paradise. It could for example be a tropical beach, an enchanted forest, or even a party with friends. Just site back, close your eyes, relax, and enjoy for as long as you wish.

People often become stressed due to excessive demands of life. Learning time management skills, as well as learning how to say ‘no’, can really benefit these people.

Take a long look at yourself and ask if you are excessively stressed. If you are then take action now. Whilst you are living in this state you are wasting your life away. We are meant to be happy and healthy. You cannot get this time back, so you must act now. Look at areas in life where you can make small, but important changes. It might be reducing overtime at work, taking adequate breaks throughout the day, avoiding certain people or situations, or even getting a new hobby. See the importance in your own stress management, and take action. Your long term happiness and health depend on it.

Reducing the Effects of Laser Hair Removal on the Skin

There are a huge number of benefits of using laser hair removal treatments as a way of removed unwanted hair, and the treatment is becoming more popular all of the time In fact, thousands of people make use of this treatment all the time, and even more are looking into is as a possible way of getting rid of their body hair
There are a huge number of benefits of using laser hair removal treatments as a way of removed unwanted hair, and the treatment is becoming more popular all of the time. In fact, thousands of people make use of this treatment all the time, and even more are looking into is as a possible way of getting rid of their body hair.

Lasers work by targeting specific cells within the follicles of hair that do not cause harm to any nearby tissue. Short pulse lasers heat the target cells less than a long pulse laser will, and are much less likely to cause any kind of skin scarring ? which is one of the possible side effects of laser hair removal. There are also types of lasers that can be controlled using automatic scanning to limit the number of pulses to the correct areas.

The aim of laser hair removal is to destroy the target cells of the hair without harming any of the surrounding area. The short pulses will help to reduce the amount that damaged cells heat up, and therefore there is less chance of thermal injury and scarring.

Possible Side Effects

Those looking into laser hair removal should always learn about the effects that it may possibly have on their skin. By knowing about the effects that laser hair removal may have on their skin beforehand this can help you to decide whether it?s the right procedure for you. One of the most significant effects of this procedure is hyperpigmentation.

This simply means that there may be an increase in skin-darkening pigments. This especially happens in those who have dark skin or skin that tans easily. However, this darkening is possible to be lightened again using skin bleaching products.

Another one of the temporary effects of laser hair removal is that the skin might be lightened (known as hypopigmentation). Again this is far more common on those who already have dark skin. This results because of lasers that have a higher exposure to the skin.

If a patient is overexposed to the laser during laser hair removal treatment then they may experience reddening of the skin. Depending on how long the overexposure lasts the thermal damage may mean the reddening lasts for a long time, or no time at all. However, this result rarely occurs during the process of laser hair removal due to the fact that there are now cooling devices available to reduce any of the risk.

Blistering is one of the most serious possible effects of laser hair removal. This usually occurs in patients with darker skin. However, in order to prevent this effect patients can have their skin treated with tissues that have been cooled. Due to these advances, blistering almost never happens anymore.

Crusting of the skin can also occur from hair removal lasers. However, most of these effects will occur extremely infrequently, and when done by a trained professional they are even more unlikely. Overall, you should consider laser hair removal as a safe way to get rid of unwanted hair. view more in here...

Get Shining Skin

1 Drink Water
Water has long been considered as the most efficient natural treatment or an almost free treatment for any skin condition because of its being alkaline, with pH 7.3. It prevents dehydration which is capable of producing sebum or oil from the sebaceous glands. Your skin needs water in order for it to function best, thus doctors and nutritionists suggest that a daily intake of between 6 to 8 glasses of water per day is highly needed.

2 Watch Your Diet
Nutrition plays a vital role in skin health too. Specific foods such as those acidic foods and dairy products are said to be effective in causing an allergic reaction in some people. Also, one of the widely debated topics in the area of nutrition today is chocolates. Some say that chocolate does affect the condition of the skin, while others say it doesn't. Whatever the result may be, the best advice is just to follow a nutritious diet that has a number of fresh fruits and green-leafy veggies, as well as fiber.

3 Consider Exfoliants
Many experts say that exfoliating your skin is another great way to attain a beautiful skin. So, try to invest in a good body exfoliant, as it is commonly called, as it is capable of eliminating the dead skin cells from your body. Accordingly, this should be done once or twice a week so to free the skin to breathe. What's more, exfoliants help to put off ingrown hair from developing.

However, it is essential to avoid using any body exfoliant on the skin on the face. The main reason for this precaution is that the facial tissue is more sensitive and finer than those tissues of the body.

4 Consider a Healthy Routine for Facial Care
When it comes to facial skin care, getting into a healthy beauty routine is not bad. Most of the doctors today greatly suggest that you cleanse, moisturize and tone your skin twice every day. When cleaning, never fail to remember cleaning the area on the neck, including your face. Apply a moisturizer or neck cream after.

Before going to bed at night, always bear in mind to remove all make up. Clean your skin before you sleep, no matter how tired you may feel. It was found out that during the night, the skin goes through a process of elimination and cannot breathe properly if it is clogged with make up. And, you may also find out that sleeping with your make up on will cause your skin to break out with spots on it.

When it comes to shaving for men, some men may experience shaving rashes. For many, these rashes lower their self-esteem, but this is actually not a big problem to think about. There are a lot ways to avoid rashes. Perhaps one of the best is to make sure that when shaving, the razor strokes are following the direction of hair growth. That's simply it!

5 Heal Your Feet
When it comes to skin care, the feet are often neglected. So, if care you found no time for a professional pedicure, try to fill a football or basin with warm water and add your favorite essential oil. Soak your feet for about fifteen minutes. Then, dry them and apply a rough skin remover onto them. Rinse this off and dry you feet well. And, if you consider pedicure, simply add some body cream to your feet for an easy and quick fix pedicure.

6 Avoid Too Much Exposure to the Sun
One of the most common precautions when it comes to skin care is avoiding too much exposure to the sun. As you may know, over exposure to sunlight causes sunburn. So, while current sun blocks only block out the UVB rays and still let in harmful UVA rays, it is still wise to cover up before venturing into the hands of Apollo. If possible, use a wide brimmed hat while tending your garden to keep the sun from your face.

7 Exercise

Aside from considering a healthy diet, exercising your body also helps keep your skin healthy. Note that a proper exercise does not only keep the body fit by regulating the oxygen; it also improves the glow of the skin as well.

8 Take Enough Rest

One common problem that face people is stress; the one which is not normal. It was found out that when a person is stressed, the adrenal cortex converts adrenal androgens to the hormone testosterone in male and female, which in turn results in overactive sebaceous glands. These adrenal androgens are released causing a double amount of testosterone, causing the face to be oily, while other areas of the body are still dry from dehydration. So, taking proper rest that includes 6 to 8 hours of undisturbed sleep daily is the best way to rejuvenate the skin.

What is Diabetes and how can you control it?

After eating, the food we eat is broken down into sugar (glucose) through the process of digestion. This sugar then enters the bloodstream so that it can be delivered throughout the body, where it is called blood sugar. Insulin, which helps metabolize blood sugar and is made in the pancreas, takes blood sugar from the bloodstream and delivers it into the body’s cells. This sugar provides energy to the cells in organs such as our heart, lungs, and kidneys, which help function properly.

Type 1 diabetes, also called insulin-dependant or juvenile diabetes, occurs when the pancreas no longer makes insulin. This is because the immune system becomes confused and begins attacking and destroying the cells in the pancreas that produce the insulin. Instead of going into the cells where it is needed, the sugar stays in the blood. Often beginning in childhood, people with Type 1 diabetes have to take a least one shot of insulin each day in order to stay alive.

The most common kind of diabetes, which often starts in overweight adults with high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels, is Type 2 diabetes. Although the pancreas is usually producing enough insulin in Type 2 diabetes, the body does not use the insulin effectively. In this type of diabetes, the cells do not respond to the insulin’s attempt to enter with glucose, so in turn, the pancreas produces more and more insulin. Because the cells do not respond, high levels of glucose build up in the blood, causing Type 2 diabetes. Once the pancreas senses that the insulin isn’t needed, it eventually stops making it. People with Type 2 diabetes often need to take prescription drugs to lower there blood sugar levels.

In both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, the sugar stays in the bloodstream rather than going into the cells where it is needed. After it builds up in the blood, it causes the cells to be starved for energy and, after a long time, damage to the blood vessels, nerves, eyes, and kidneys. Type 1 diabetes, which develops very quickly, can be recognized by symptoms including: frequent urination, intense thirst, increased hunger, and weight loss. Type 2 diabetes, on the other hand, develops very gradually without any symptoms at all. Unfortunately, Type 2 diabetes is usually only diagnosed after the occurrence of a complication, such as circulation problems, nerve damage, eye problems, or kidney damage.

All of these complications are caused by high blood sugar levels; however, most of them can be prevented. The longer these blood sugar levels are elevated, the greater the risk for having complications is. Because high blood sugar levels damage blood vessels, they eventually become thicker and less flexible. This causes poor circulation which can complicate healing. These high blood sugar levels also cause higher levels of fat in the bloodstream, which clogs and narrows blood vessels. This partial blockage will deprive the heart of necessary nutrients, resulting in a heart attack, heart pain, or a stroke. Because high blood sugars can cause nerve damage, a person with Type 2 diabetes may lose feeling in parts of their body or have a painful pins-and-needles-like feeling. Diabetes can also damage and weaken blood vessels in the retina, which causes them to leak fluid, resulting in a swelling in the eye, which will blur vision. Since the blood vessels are so fragile, they can break open and bleed into the eye, which will cause scar tissue to form, along with the possibility of the retina to break away from the back of the eye, resulting in visual impairment, or even blindness. The blood vessels in the kidneys can also be damaged, preventing it from filtering out the body’s waste. The longer the blood sugar levels are left uncontrolled, the greater the amount of kidney damage that can occur. If the kidney damage isn’t stopped, a kidney transplant or dialysis machine may eventually be needed.

All of these complications can be prevented through vitamins, minerals, and herbal supplements, which keep people with diabetes healthy and provide powerful tools that prevent the serious complications from occurring. The most helpful nutritional supplement should contain powerful vitamins, minerals, and herbs in a synergistic formula that can lower blood sugars effectively and provide nutrients which people with diabetes need. The supplement should be taken twice a day in addition to a high quality multivitamin. Because a diabetic formula is complementary, it means it should be taken in addition to your multivitamin, not as a replacement.

Since diabetes is a disease that requires active participation, you must be aware of your problem and be in control of it as much as possible. If you use a home glucose monitor to check your blood sugars, you may feel more comfortable checking your glucose levels more often when you first begin the diabetic formula supplement. However, you should always follow your doctor’s recommendation as to how often you should check your blood sugar levels. According to most licensed health care practitioners, a good blood sugar range for most people with diabetes before a meal is from about 70-150, ideally between 70 and 120. By taking a supplement formulated especially for diabetics, your blood sugars should be right where they are recommended. Successful diabetes management means doing lost of positive things, among these include visiting your licensed health care practitioner often, choosing foods wisely and staying active, and taking a diabetic formula supplement, but remember, this diabetic formula supplement is meant to be an addition to a healthy diet, not a substitute. you can read more article...

How to Stop Smoking???

"Have a will to grow, and grow your will!" In the present context, you need to have the will to outgrow. Outgrow the smoking habit and stop smoking for ever!

Your battle is with nicotine, supported by 4000 other poisonous elements that will not allow you easy victory over the smoking habit! You have to destroy the smoking habit, before it destroys you!

Even though tobacco and smoking has thousands of years of history, smoking was a worldwide phenomenon since the beginning of the 16th century. It's is a great adventure with the younger generation in most of the countries now. In USA, every day 3000 new boys are recruited to the smoking brigade.

Now, without going in to the details, as to what made you a confirmed smoker, let us presently discuss about your intense desire to stop smoking for ever. They say, well begun is half done. You have made the decision, which has far reaching consequences. For your health and for the health of your family! Do not be under the impression that the external tools will assist you to stop smoking for ever. They can't be relied upon. You have been cheated by them in the past. To tempt and cheat persons like you is their permanent way of life.

Firmly depend upon your will power. Hate the cigarette, as if it is your sworn enemy. You have to be very firm with yourself during these important initial few days of your non-smoking era. No doubt, Nicotine is a hard addiction. It is not as strong as you supposed it to be. You supported it and it extended its influence over you. If you dissect the addiction, you will find that it is 80% psychological and 20% physiological. You need to switch off your thought currents which constantly feed you with the wrong data, that cigarette smoking gives lots of pleasure and there is beauty in the smoke coils.

Start the day by thinking that you are a non-smoker and you will remain a non-smoker. If your mind takes you to the sweet recollections of the past, tell it firmly that you have severed all relations with the past in relation to smoking.

You have made the firm decision to quit smoking for ever. Stick to it with determination. There is nothing like solid determination for success in life. "An idle mind is the devil's workshop." If you have nothing do, your hand reaches for the cigarette packet automatically. Do exercise. Walk on the terrace or in your garden briskly for 10-15 minutes. Become tired! Avoid smoker friends. You have to overcome the initial temptation with your strong will power only. There is no other substitute.

As you feel the strong urge to smoke, drink a glass of water. Even if you have to drink lots of water during the day, it is not going to harm you in any way. At the time of cigarette craving, eat a piece of fruit.

And finally, practice yoga and meditation regularly. These are no ordinary tools. Meditation alone has the power to make you smoke-free, but soon you will be a dynamic anti-smoking campaigner.

Menjaga Kesehatan Mata

Asthma Symptoms and How to Prevent Asthma

Asthma is an allergic inflammation of the lungs, which can be triggered by air pollutants, pollens, molds, dust, animal dander, chemicals, exercise, foods or even changes in temperature. These triggers produce allergens, which are then absorbed into the blood stream causing the B cells or white blood cells to produce billions of molecules of the antibody IgE. These IgE molecules in the bloodstream then combine with the mast cells, which line the blood vessels or basophils, a type of white blood cell.

Mast cells and basophils both contain histamine and serotonin, and the antibody IgE causes the mast cells and basophils to leak the histamine and serotonin into the blood stream. In addition to this, the production of a group of fatty acids called lucotrienes or Lt's are the primary cause of asthma symptoms. Lt's are formed by the combination or action of two enzymes, phospholipase A2 and lipxygenase.

When you experience an asthma attack, the walls of the lungs become inflamed and the mucus membranes fill with fluid and thick, sticky mucus making it difficult to breathe.

Common asthma symptoms are a scratchy throat, coughing, shortness of breath, wheezing, and a tight feeling in the chest. An asthma attack can be mild, moderate or severe and lasting for a few minutes, hours, or even several days.

Knowing when to get emergency help for a severe attack can save your life. According to the American Academy of Family Physicians, f you are experiencing the following, you should seek immediate medical attention:

medication does not seem to be helping you,

extreme difficulty breathing, talking and walking,

your fingernails or lips are turning blue,

chest feels tight and your ribs are pulled inward as you breathe,

nostrils are flaring when you breath

There are currently 15 to 17 million Americans suffering from asthma, and it is considered the most common chronic illness affecting children. From 1982 to 1994 the annual death rate from asthma rose 75% and is continuing to rise. This increase is occurring in the general population and not just within genetically predisposed families. A public awareness campaign is being launched to educate parents about asthma prevention.

What are Dust Mites?

Dust mites are microscopic insects and live in bedding, pillows, mattresses, blankets, upholstery, carpets etc. They thrive particularly in humid climates. They live off of dead skin cells and produce an allergen from their excrement which is inhaled.

All Homes Contain Dust Mites No Matter How Clean They Are.

Studies have shown that dust mite allergens in the home must be reduced to at least 2mcg/g dust or mite populations decreased to 100/g dust to have any significant benefit. There are several things that can be done to accomplish this.

What Can Be Done To Eliminate or Reduce Dust Mites?

Researchers have found through numerous studies that these are the most effective measures:

Changing the relative humidity and temperature of the home: keeping relative humidity less than 50% is proven to greatly reduce the dust mite population. (Portable dehumidifiers were not shown to significantly reduce humidity).

Mechanical ventilation with a heat recovery unit has proved to be the most effective to reduce humidity in the home.

Using air cleaners that have HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filters, which will also eliminate other allergens such as pollen and animal dander.

Cleaning using a vacuum with a HEPA filter and steam cleaning rugs and upholstery regularly.

Washing all bedding in hot water (60 degrees C, 130 degrees F) on a weekly basis is known to kill dust mites. Drying bedding in a hot dryer.

Dry cleaning quilts and blankets weekly will also kill dust mites.

Placing plastic casings specifically made for dust mite control on pillows and mattresses.

Chemicals used on carpets and upholstery which are known to kill dust mites include benzyl benzoate, permethrin, pirimiphos methyl, phenyl salicylate, tannic acid, common household disinfectants, combinations of these, and insect growth regulators.

Fight Cancer With Broccoli Sprouts

Mom was right to insist on us eating our vegetables. She
knew they built health and gave us the minerals we need.
Now scientists have found that we can eat foods to help
us both prevent cancer and fight cancer.

Take Broccoli sprouts. Broccoli sprouts are rich in a
compound that provides significant protection against breast
cancer and colon cancer. The compound is called sulforaphane glucosinalate.

Sprouts grown from certain types of broccoli seeds contain
up to 50 times more of this compound than mature broccoli
to help you fight cancer.

My research shows that a brand of sprouts developed at John
Hopkins University is guaranteed to have 20 more times the
SGS compound than the mature broccoli. This one is called
BroccoSprouts. You can purchase broccoli sprouts at your
local health food store or grocery store.

It is possible that Broccoli sprouts could carry the
bacteria that make you sick - salmonella and e.coli, so
you may want to take them out of the container when
you get them home and soak in a bowl of water with
a few drops of grapefruit seed extract for three or four minutes.

Don't put the sprouts back in the same container unless you
soak that as well. After draining them for a few minutes
store them in the refrigerator.

With Breast cancer and Colon cancer so common these days,
be sure to add in this protective food, assisting your body to
fight off illness and cancer.

Green Tea: The Japanese Secret to Good Health

Cancer remains a number-one killer in countries around the world. Therefore, it should come as little surprise that medical researchers are exploring new avenues in an effort to find ways to attack cancer.

The investigation into alternative cancer therapies often begins by examining the cultures of specific nations in an effort to determine whether diet or other customs could help unlock the secret to curing this dreaded disease. Since green tea has been a staple of the Japanese diet for centuries, it's not surprising that new attention is being paid to the tea's therapeutic benefits.

In recent years, doctors and scientific researchers have been focusing new attention on the idea of drinking green tea in an effort to keep cancer at bay. It's been thought that the beverage possesses certain natural properties which make it a likely cancer preventative.

Studying Green Tea In-Depth

In order to look at this issue in more depth, researchers Kazue Imai, Kenji Suga, and Kei Nakachi of the Saitama Cancer Center Research Institute in Saitama, Japan, decided to examine the effects of green tea drinking among the Japanese.

In an article entitled Cancer-Preventive Effects of Drinking Green Tea Among a Japanese Population in Preventative Medicine magazine, the research team explored the therapeutic benefits of green tea at length.

When the researchers began their investigation, there had been a number of studies indicating that the main ingredient of green tea, epigallocatechin gallate, or EGCG, was anti-carcinogenic. However, there was little evidence to suggest that EGCG could prevent cancer in human beings. While some human studies had been conducted, the results were far from conclusive.

The Japanese research team strongly believed that it was absolutely critical to conduct an in-depth study in an Asian nation, given the popularity of tea consumption in the Orient. Ultimately, the Japanese scientists found that those Japanese subjects who drank green tea were less likely to develop cancer. This was particularly true among women who consumed more than ten cups of green tea each day.

A Natural Cancer Prevention Tool

The rate of cancer was low among both men and women who consumed large amounts of green tea. In addition, a study of 384 cancer patients indicated that increased consumption of green tea was linked with a delay in the onset of cancer.

Again, this phenomenon was most prevalent among women who consumed more than ten cups of green tea each day. The average delay for the onset of cancer was four years four years of enhanced quality of life for the subjects involved.

To a Western mind, drinking ten cups of green tea daily can seem mind-boggling especially if one has difficulty consuming eight glasses of water each day. It should be noted that, on average, the subjects were probably consuming 150 ml of green tea per cup. That would amount to about 300 to 400 milligrams of EGCG a healthy amount, by any standard.

More Powerful Than Once Thought

It has become clear that green tea is far more powerful in fighting cancer than researchers once thought. For instance, scientists recently discovered that green tea's unique chemical makeup enables it to combat one of the key cancer-causing molecules linked to tobacco use. The ground-breaking evidence appeared in a journal published by the American Chemical Society.

In the study, researchers examined the effects of two components of green tea, EGCG and epigallocatechin, also known as EGC. These substances are close to the consistency of cancer-preventing substances in red wine, grapes, broccoli, and cabbage. The research team discovered that EGCG and EGC can inhibit a molecule that often turns on genes that can be harmful to the body, leading to the development of cancer.

However, it's unclear whether the results in the science lab could be replicated in a person's home, since the effectiveness of drinking green tea depends on how the beverage is used by the human body. In addition, there appear to be differences between varieties of green tea, so additional study is necessary to prove the beverage's effectiveness in inhibiting potentially harmful molecular processes.

The Need for More Research

Based upon the evidence presented in the study conducted by Imai, Suga, and Nakachi, there can be little doubt that their research indicates that consuming green tea can lead to the prevention of cancer. However, additional research is definitely needed in order to determine which organs of the body could best benefit from green tea.

In other words, will drinking green tea fight stomach cancer? Breast cancer? Colon cancer? At this point, the answers to these questions remain unclear. Yet, it should be noted that laboratory tests show that green tea's EGCG can zero in on organs in an effort to prevent cancer.

The initial research into cancer prevention using green tea is incredibly encouraging. To begin with, green tea is an ordinary part of many people's diets, so drinking the beverage does not necessarily mean a radical lifestyle change. If people are already accustomed to consuming green tea, it stands to reason that they wouldn't mind consuming more of it, if it would mean preventing the occurrence of cancer.

A Virtually Problem-Free Solution

Some approaches to preventing cancer may seem initially appealing, but can become decidedly less so because of the side effects involved. However, there are no toxic effects linked to green tea consumption, meaning that this cancer-fighting remedy is especially promising.

In addition, green tea appears to be a powerful cancer prevention tool. If the beverage's therapeutic effects were limited, there wouldn't be a great deal of interest in using it as a cancer preventative. However, the strong link between green tea consumption and cancer prevention indicated by the Japanese study means that there is good reason for people to consider adding green tea to their diets.

Effects Beyond the Orient

Some might conclude that green tea drinking only prevents cancer among Asian populations, but researchers in the field believe that would be a mistake. It's entirely possible that, if Westerners also made green tea a significant part of their daily diet, they would also see the preventative effects.

With so many supermarkets and convenience stores in the West now stocking green tea, it may be just a matter of time before Westerners will also experience the beverage's medicinal benefits. By. healthy vilage

A Natural Herb May Help Lower Blood Sugar

ymnema sylvestre is found naturally in central and southern India, where it has been used in traditional Indian medicine for almost two thousand years. It is known as 'gurmar' in ancient Indian texts, a word meaning 'sugar destroyer', which gives an indication of its uses in medicine.

It is used to reduce the absorption of glucose into the body, and also reduce the sweetness of foods, both of which are desirable for those wishing to lose weight and to reduce the level of sugar in their blood. It was used for this purpose in Ayurvedic medicine, subjects being given the leaves to chew. As with many other ancient Ayurvedic remedies, this use of gymnema sylvestre has passed into modern times, and has sound scientific basis. First, however a bit more about the plant itself.

It is found predominantly in the Western Ghats, and also to the west of the mountains, around coastal Goa. It is a vinous plant that climbs on other bushes and trees, known in Sanskrit as Meshasringa, or ram's horn after the shape of the leaves from which the supplement is extracted. For what it's worth, the official name seems a mix of Greek and Latin (gymnos(Gr) - naked and Silva (L)- forest) for naked forest. That, however, is irrelevant to its uses, so let's have a look at the science involved and the active ingredients in the plant.

The main constituents are terpenoid saponins known as gymnemic acids, so one can assume that they were first found in this plant. They are glycosides, including hodulcine and ziziphin, which act as sweetness inhibitors so that there is no sweet taste in anything that is sweetened by sucrose. There are over 20 types of gymnemic acid in the leaves, of which the strongest, Gymnemic Acid 1, can suppress the sweetness even of artificial sweeteners such as aspartame.

These are not irreversible effects, and last only about 10 minutes, after which normal sweetness is detectable by your tongue. During the active period, however, a solution of normal sugar will taste like ordinary unsweetened water. However, is this just a matter of taste, or does it affect the sugar itself?

Studies have shown that animals fed the leaves of Gymnema sylvestre develop hypoglycemia, probably because it stimulates the pancreas to generate insulin that reduces the level of sugar in the blood. Further studies have shown the presence in the leaves of a number of types of acylated derivatives of deacylgymnemic acid. There are well over a dozen types of saponins known to be contained within the leaves.

Other chemicals found include anthraquinones, flavanoids, chlorophylls, querticol, phytin, a number of glycosides and anthraquinones. The bush also contains alkaloids, although these are constituents in most plants used in ancient remedies. This is by no means all of the chemicals discovered, and many of the minor benefits of using it could be due to the minor constituents of this amazing little leaf.

A study of the above constituents will reveal a few antioxidants, and it is no surprise that the extract from Gymnema sylvestre also possesses anti-inflammatory properties. Gymnemic acid is believed to have a similar chemical structure to saccharose, and the plant extracts can be used not only to reduce a craving for sugar, but also to treat digestive problems and high cholesterol levels. So what scientific evidence is there other than the obvious effects reported by those that use it?

A study in the UK in 2005 found that an aqueous extract of Gymnema sylvestre caused the secretion of calcium and insulin from mouse and human cells to be increased at a specific concentration without affecting the cellular function. This means that the supplement can be used to stimulate the secretion of insulin with people with Type 2 diabetes without otherwise affecting health. Its usefulness to diabetics is obvious, but there are other health benefits to those that are not diabetic.

Anything that modulates a sweet tooth must be of use to those seeking to lose weight, particularly if they feel the need for sweet foods. In fact Gymnema tends to reduce food cravings for carbohydrates and sweets, and can be used by those seeking a natural means of curbing their appetite for sweet and sugary foods. Because excess weight can lead to diabetes,

Although there have been many discussions about the biochemical mechanism of the gymnemic acids in this effect on taste, recent evidence suggests that the phytochemicals act on both your taste buds and on those parts of the intestine responsible for absorbing nutrients from digested foods.

Not only that, but studies have also indicated that Gymnema sylvestre removes the bitterness of acerbic chemicals such as quinine in the same way that it removes the sweetness form cakes and candies, and if you drank tonic water it would taste just like water. On the other hand, if you ate an orange, you would taste the acidity but not the sweetness.

The way to use this remarkable supplement is to follow the instructions, and within about a week you will be able to control your appetite much better, and any cravings for carbohydrates you previously had will be much reduced. After a month or so, you will notice an accelerated rate of weight loss if you had been overweight, and diabetics will find a significant reduction on blood sugar between insulin shots.

Gymnema sylvestre can take care of any sugar or carbohydrate cravings, and is of significant use to the overweight, obese or to diabetics, and the mechanism by which it works has now been all but understood, although there are still some biochemical secrets that this amazing plant has yet to reveal. This amazing herb can be found at your local or internet vitamin store. by. heathy villave

Binge Drinking Affects Brain, Memory

That old joke about going out drinking to kill a few brain cells may not be so funny any more.

Young people who binge drink could be risking serious damage to their brains now and increasing memory loss later in adulthood, according to new research. Adolescents may be even more vulnerable to brain damage from excessive drinking than older drinkers.

Researchers at Duke University, studied frequent binge exposure to alcohol in rats to compare the effects of binge drinking on younger and older rats. The animals were given doses of alcohol which were comparable to multiple instances of binge drinking in humans.

"We are not concerned about college students who only drink one or two drinks every now and then. We are concerned about heavy drinkers." lead author Dr. Aaron M. White told Reuters Health. "The alcohol dose was very high because we don't know what is an appropriate dose, so we want to show an effect if one is present."

"We believe that the adolescent brain is more vulnerable to the neurotoxic effects of alcohol than the adult brain." he said. Alcohol was found to impair activity in the brain receptors responsible for memory and learning.

Later Memory Loss
Researchers gave the adolescent rats alcohol in a binge pattern where they received a lot of alcohol one day, then they had a day off. This was repeated over a 20-day period.

After a 20-day break, the rats were tested in mazes to determine their basic motor and memory skills. The "binge drinking" adolescent rats were compared with adult rats that were also given high amounts of alcohol, and to both adult and adolescent rats that were not exposed to binge drinking.

There was no difference in test performance between the groups of rats until they were given more alcohol. After a moderate dose of alcohol, the rat exposed to binge drinking during adolescence exhibited memory loss.

"What we found was that the group that was most affected -- made the most errors -- was the group that had the binge pattern exposure as adolescents," White said. "These rats had a more difficult time finding their way through a maze that they were trained to navigate."

"The implications of this study are that teenagers who drink heavily and often may be susceptible to the neurobehavioural effects of alcohol than would adults with similar drinking experiences," Dr David McKinzie, assistant professor at the Indiana University School of Medicine told the BBC News. "Of special concern is the possibility that the effects of early chronic drinking may have long-lasting consequences."

Anti Aging Solution

Anti-aging solutions of many types are available in the market. Wrinkles can develop faster than nature allows mainly due to dry skin, injuries, smoke, sun, cold weathers, tanning beds, and other harmful elements in the world. Seems nowadays everyone has the antiaging solution for reducing wrinkles and restoring the facials youth.

Avotone is another of the anti-aging solutions that provided no effects to few, and the reports claimed no advantages came from using the solution. The cost is apparently high. Therefore, the solution has a money back guarantee up to two months. It is wise to take advantage of the guarantee according to the dissatisfied reporter.

Alphablend is one of the better choices of ingredients to select from this solution according to online sources. Thus, if you have blemishes then the inhibitors are optional, since it works to extract conditions of the skin that causes blemishing to occur. The refiner however has a higher than average content of alcohol, thus this is not idea for applying to the face.

Many young and old are looking for an Anti aging therapy solution to stop or minimize the aging process. While anti aging therapy marketers and manufacturers claim that they have the ultimate selection of anti aging therapy products that will help you in reducing and/or eliminating wrinkles, crowfeet, sags, fine lines, splotching, and other signs of aging.

Proanthocyanidins was discovered in 1936 by Professor Jacques Masquelier and called Vitamin P. Of course they dropped the Vitamin P and went with the longer word nobody could spell.

DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) is an adrenal hormone that is the precursor for steroid hormones such as testosterone and estrogen. DHEA declines precipitously with advancing age in both men and women. DHEA became credible to the medical establishment when the New York Academy of Sciences published a book entitled DHEA and Aging. This book provided scientific validation for the many life extending effects of DHEA.

Some of the better aids for preventing wrinkles are Vitamins, which are herbals that corporate into the bottle substances that help prevent wrinkles. Vitamin A, C, and B Complex are said to be the better choice of vitamins for reducing wrinkles. However, you must continue the vitamins daily to see results. Vitamins are vital for enhancing the nails growth, hair, and skin, which naturally prevents natural wrinkles. Baby Oils is said to help dry skin. The product works wonders for reducing stretch marks caused from birth. Some foams coming available on the marketplace are great sources for making the skin look healthy, while presenting a smoothness, and shiny appeal, continuing to reduce wrinkles

Gels are sometimes better than other types of methods to get rid of wrinkles. The gels sometimes restore the facial area, giving it a glowing appeal. Depends on the name, and the ingredients in the gels, but few help to minimizing wrinkles, but like many other anti aging products, few methods ever get rid of wrinkles all together.

Methyl Sulfonyl Methane-MSM is one of the many anti aging products used to fight wrinkles and is available in supplement form or else lotions. However, new studies are showing that the Supplements used for fighting wrinkles are causing harm. Government has recently placed warnings abroad the Internet. By. louis R.

Mesothelioma cancer

When a patient learns of a mesothelioma diagnosis, confusion is often one of the first emotions experienced. What exactly is mesothelioma? Is it a disease? A virus? Mesothelioma is actually a rare type of cancer. When people refer to mesothelioma disease, they are actually referring to mesothelioma cancer. Mesothelioma develops in the mesothelium, the membrane that surrounds several body cavities. The mesothelium is comprised of mesothelial cells, which become abnormal and divide uncontrollably if mesothelioma is present.

Four different types of mesothelioma exist. Pleural mesothelioma is the most common form of the cancer and develops in the lining of the lungs, known as the pleura. Peritoneal mesothelioma affects the lining of the abdomen, known as the peritoneum. Pericardial mesothelioma is very rare, as approximately 200 cases have been reported internationally. Pericardial mesothelioma develops in the pericardium, the membrane that surrounds the heart and protects the organ. Testicular mesothelioma is the rarest form of mesothelioma and develops in the lining surrounding the testicles, known as the tunica vaginalis.

Approximately 2,000 to 3,000 people are diagnosed with mesothelioma annually in the United States. Many patients are not diagnosed with the cancer until it has reached later developmental stages since it may take 20 to 50 years for a patient to demonstrate symptoms of mesothelioma. The cancer is caused almost exclusively by asbestos exposure and it often takes decades for a patient to express mesothelioma symptoms from the time initial asbestos exposure occurred.

Mesothelioma Symptoms

Diagnosis can be difficult because symptoms often resemble more common illnesses and are non-specific. Patients are often unaware of the severity of their condition until they are diagnosed with mesothelioma. A patient with peritoneal mesothelioma may express symptoms such as a persistent dry or raspy cough, difficulty breathing and swallowing, night sweats and fever, among others. Pericardial mesothelioma patients may complain of swelling or pain in the abdomen, fatigue, nausea, night sweats or the appearance of lumps under the skin on the abdomen. A patient with pericardial mesothelioma may experience heart palpitations or irregular heartbeat, chest pain, difficult breathing, fever and fatigue. Testicular mesothelioma symptoms have been confined to the appearance of testicular lumps.

Mesothelioma Diagnosis

Once a patient demonstrates unusual symptoms and visits a doctor, a medical review and physical examination often follow. Typically, further testing will be needed and an x-ray will likely be requested to pinpoint the location of the cancer and determine whether or not it has spread to other areas of the body. Additional imaging tests such as a CT scan, PET scan or MRI are often recommended for a more detailed image of the cancer. A fluid and tissue test, known as a biopsy is then typically conducted to collect a sample of fluid or tissue to test for the presence of cancerous cells. A pathologist generally examines the sample to determine whether or not mesothelioma is present.

Mesothelioma Treatment

After diagnosis, patients and their loved ones are often anxious to do everything possible to fight mesothelioma. This may involve several different treatment options. The most common treatments mesothelioma patients utilize include surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. Though a cure for mesothelioma does not currently exist, many patients undergo several treatments for relief from symptoms to improve the quality of life. Patients may also experience relief through experimental options and treatments available through clinical trials and alternative therapies.

How Much Water Are You Drinking?

Did you know that you can increase good health by making
sure that you get enough water? Yes plain water that has
been purified in some way. The water most of us get from the
tap is full of chemicals that is bad for our health. Do
not drink tap water, unless you have your own well, which
you know is not contaminated.

Drinking water is essential for a healthy body. Water regulates body
temperature, lubricates joints, keeps skin youthful and
muscles strong.

Water is present in every cell and tissue and involved in so
many biological functions: digestion, absorption,
circulation and excretion. It helps us with keeping our
hormones balanced and our brain chemistry Relies on water
for proper balance. Water gives us energy and strengthens
the immune system.

Most people are not drinking enough water and are semi
dehydrated. Your body cannot work at optimum level without
the water it needs.

What happens when you don't drink enough water?

I won't go into all the details, but do want to mention a
few things here. All the things mentioned above that water
helps keep in balance and lubricated are affected when you
don't drink water. You will not feel as well as you possibly
could, your body does not have what it needs for good health
and so your health declines.

Here is one example of what I mean: When you do not get
enough water throughout the day, your body just does not
have the needed fluid and sometimes tries to pull it from
where it can and distribute it to the places that need
hydration the most. One place that water is pulled from is
your digestive system. When you do not drink enough water it
leads to constipation.

As we all know, constipation is not a good thing. Besides
the uncomfortable, sick feeling there are other things going
on. Transit time slows down and some of the toxins and
poisons dumped into the digestive system begin to
recirculate.

If you do become constipated, I would suggest using Natural Moves. Natural Moves is a 100% natural, safe and effective herbal remedy to stop constipation naturally without risk of dehydration,
mineral imbalance or dependency.

Natural Moves Tablets can be used both for chronic and occasional constipation. The herbs used in Natural Moves promote healthy digestion and act as a good liver tonic, avoiding the risk of dependency and side effects associated with some other laxative products. Click here for Natral Moves Tablets.

As these toxins build up they store in your tissues causing
ill health. Kidneys separate water from the waste in the
blood, so there is a strain put on them when toxicity
levels increase. Along with that the Liver then has quite a
bit more to do, trying to detoxify the system as a whole.

Drinking water is the most important drink you can consume for good health. With this being the case, I suggest that you drink
one quart of water for every 50 pounds of weight. So if you
weighed 150 pounds, you would need to drink 3 quarts of
water.

I also find it best if a person will actually measure the
needed water out, into a container each day. Other wise
most people lose track of how much they did drink. So they
usually do not drink enough water for the day.

Why not put this information to use today? No matter where
your health is at this point, consuming drinking water in the required amount will aid you in reaching better health and maintaining it. By. health-doc.com

History Of Carbon Monoxide

There is a long history of the carbon monoxide compound that dates back nearly eight hundred years. While the compound exists naturally and has likely been present since early in the earth's formation, it wasn't until a 14th century Spanish chemist named Arnaldus de Villanova described the gases from burning wood, which we today know as carbon monoxide. Almost three hundred years later, a Belgian chemist, Jan Baptista van Helmont, almost lost his life while inadvertently inhaling a carbon dioxide and monoxide mixture.

By the late 1700's, a French chemist named Lassone was able to take a coal material and heat up zinc oxide, which emitted a then-unknown gas that made a blue flame in his laboratory - carbon monoxide. It is unclear whether a chemist from England named William Cruikshank clearly identified carbon monoxide first at the turn of the 19th century or another English chemist, Joseph Priestly, did so a few years earlier when he identified both carbon dioxide and monoxide.

Poison value well known

While the early studies of carbon monoxide did indeed indicate that it was a poison to humans in many cases, it wasn't until the mid-1800's that French physiologist Claude Bernard specifically studied the deadly characteristics of the gas. For several centuries, many scientists have known of the poisonous nature of carbon monoxide. Tiny doses or naturally occurring amounts of carbon monoxide typically cause vomiting, nausea, an unnatural feeling of exhilaration and other effects. Of course as the amount of carbon monoxide increases, can cause unconsciousness as well as severe intestinal occlusions and eruptions. Ultimately, a high enough level of carbon monoxide can cause death.

the action of carbon monoxide poisoning is a relatively simple process. Oxygen molecules enter the lungs and are carried by red blood cells. the oxygen links up with an iron atom in a molecule called oxyhemoglobin. It is later freed by this molecule to aid other cell functions throughout the body that produce energy. When carbon monoxide enters the body this "transference chain" of oxygen is broken. Carbon monoxide bonds with the hemoglobin as does oxygen but it is much more stable (as carbonmonoxyhemoglobin) and lasts longer than oxygen, thus pushing out oxygen and essentially suffocating cells in the body. Since much less oxygen enters the body, less energy is produced and the body is poisoned.

As a cause of death

Carbon monoxide is so prevalent that, throughout the world, more people die of it than any other type of poison. Since it has no smell and is transparent, it is very hard to detect. Luckily, modern technology has caught up and carbon monoxide detectors are produced in huge volumes for home, office and industrial use. they are installed the same way that smoke detectors are. Some typical sources of carbon monoxide are unventilated charcoal fires, broken gas furnaces or stove connections and, of course, automotive and other combustible engine exhaust. this last example is the most prevalent emission of the gas in the modern world today. Often, in such overpopulated places as Mexico City or New York, car emissions are the most common carbon monoxide source with unusually high levels. those who smoke tobacco also have a direct interaction with carbon monoxide. Nearly ten percent of all of the body's hemoglobin is locked out by carbon monoxide for those who regularly smoke a pack or more a day of cigarettes.

Since the most common form of carbon monoxide emission is from cars, it is important to note the amount of carbon dioxide/carbon monoxide that emerges and how it happens. Both the temperature and the amount of oxygen in place during the reaction that generates carbon monoxide will determine its amount. Typically, carbon monoxide can form when there is little oxygen and combustion takes place at lower temperatures, so when there is more oxygen present and the temperature is higher, greater amounts are generated.

Ironically, for a number of years following the advent of the Industrial Revolution carbon monoxide was used a fuel for automobiles in parts of the world where gasoline could not be easily found. In these places, charcoal-burning devices were integrated into the combustion engine, so that when coal was burned, a high concentration of carbon monoxide was piped directly to the carburetor to be fired to move engine pistons, etc. the gas has also been used to euthanize animals and humans over the years, but the practice has largely fallen off in recent times. Carbon monoxide has also been used to drive oxygen out of substances to reduce them to their purest form. As an example, if iron oxide is used as a source material, and carbon monoxide is forced to interact with it, pure iron will result from the process. By : Alex De Mostafa

Dental Health

People begin to learn about dental health from a very young age, when teeth first begin to show up. But in spite of such early awareness, many people fail to maintain good dental health through their adult life. Good dental health comprises brushing and flossing your teeth every day, and regular visits to a dentist or dental hygienist as well. Besides, people supplement their dental care with the use of products like mouthwash or advanced mouth care systems. You should keep it in mind that the lack of adequate dental care practices will result in cavities and gum disease.

It is generally advised that you use a toothbrush with softer bristles so as to protect your gums. Some people, however, prefer power brush systems that help break up plaque and bacteria in your mouth. But it takes more than brushing to keep your teeth in good health. Some other steps need to be taken to ensure that people do not lose their teeth as they become old.

To begin with, you should understand your own oral health needs, as your oral health depends on your diet, the type and amount of saliva in your mouth, your overall health and your oral hygiene routine. Try to follow a daily routine in consultation with your dentist.

As fluoride strengthens developing teeth in kids and prevents decay in adults, toothpastes and mouthwashes containing fluoride should be used. You should brush at least twice a day, if possible three times or after every meal. You should also floss at least twice a day. Brushing and flossing will remove plaque, a complex mass of bacteria that constantly forms on your teeth.

Limit the consumption of snacks and follow a balanced diet plan. Tobacco in any form will enhance the risk of oral cancer and cause stains on your teeth. Visit your dentist regularly and get your mouth examined.

Dust Mite Information

How many sleep in your bed and carpet?

What's in house dust that's so bad?
Dust mites, Dust mite fecal pellets, Mold Spores, Pollen, Shed skin cells and Pet dander.

What are dust mites doing in my house?
They're living in upholstery, mattresses, pillows and carpets. They feed on shed human skin! Each one produces approximately 20 fecal pellet each day, and females lay 25 to 50 eggs every three weeks.

How many live in my home?
The population of dust mites increase and decrease with seasonal changes in temperature and humidity, but the average mattress is host to around 2 million of them!

What can I do?
Scientific studies of dust-allergic patients have shown that taking steps to minimize dust exposure in your indoor air environment leads to a decrease in allergic symptoms and a decrease in medication requirements.

Wash all of your sheets and blankets 1-2 times a week in HOT water to kill the dust mites and remove the dust mite allergen from your bedding. Dry your clothes on the setting that you normally use.

Vacuum often! At least 2 times per week with a High Quality HEPA Vacuum Cleaner that is sealed so dust and allergens cannot blow through the vacuum cleaners case or around the HEPA filter.

Note: Many lower quality HEPA vacuum cleaners leak lots of dust mite allergens and dusty air right through the case of the machine only to blow back into your indoor environment. These vacuum cleaners are not properly sealed!

Use Quality HEPA air cleaners in any occupied room or open space where people with allergies live or work in.

Stay away from the small, inexpensive lower quality HEPA air cleaners you will find in department stores. This is because these air cleaners will provide a very low air exchange rate per hour even in a small bedroom which will not be powerful enough to do a good job. Also, these lower quality air cleaners may cost less money up front, but the future filter replacement costs can be HUGE! Purchasing a high quality HEPA air cleaner is the way to go! This is because a high quality HEPA air cleaner can save you many hundreds of dollars in future filter replacement costs in only a few years while doing a much better job of cleaning your air.

Quality brands of HEPA air cleaners to investigate are made by Austin Air, TRACS and IQ air.

Replace your 5% efficient disposable A/C or heating filter for a cleanable/washable 90% efficient self charging electrostatic air filter. These higher quality air filters will last for many years while stopping a great deal of free flowing air borne Dust Mite allergen and other allergens from reentering back into you're A/C or heating system's duct work to blow back into your living air space.

REDUCE ALLERGY & ASTHMA TRIGGERS

Take and utilize these allergy control measures to greatly reduce the Dust Mite allergen and other allergens in your home or office!

With several different brands of contact lenses out there, it can be very difficult when you select your pair. Often times, your optician will suggest a brand to you, although sometimes they won't. Different brands are coming out all the time, which can make it very difficult for first time contact lens users to select the best brand for their eyes and their needs. A few examples of some of the best contact lenses manufacturers include Acuvue, Bausch and Lomb, and Progressive. These are all great choices, offering you a variety models to choose from.

Also, you can also purchase your contacts at your opticians office. If you don't have access to the internet, buying this way is a great decision. You can also purchase at a local store that sells contact lenses and glasses, such as Wal-Mart. Since they offer a variety of different contacts for those who need them, the prices are great here as well. You can also buy solution here as well, making it well worth the trip to get your contact lenses.

If you shop around, you can usually find some great deals for your lenses. The prices of the contact lenses will vary depending on the brand and type your optician prescribed. If you are buying the latest and greatest brands of contact lenses, you can obviously count on the price to be a bit higher. This is to be anticipated, as contacts cost the most when they first come out and are available for purchase.

In order to buy contact lenses, you'll require a prescription. When you go to an optician for the fitting process, he will observe your eyes and let you know if you can wear contacts. There are a few types, such as soft contact lenses and hard contact lenses. Depending on your eyes, you may have to get a unique type of contact lens. The optician will give you his recommendation, and tell you everything you need to know and do for the contacts that he will give you a prescription for.

Vitamin C in Skin Care

The integumentary system is the body's largest organ. It can also be a woman's biggest nightmare. The epidermis and its care is one of the most ubiquitous concerns of women as they age. Vitamin C is used in skin care to help prevent premature aging and damage from the suns rays. The antioxidant properties of Vitamin C allows it to bond with and remove damaging radicals in the skin from pollution, cigarette smoke and other sources. Vitamin C is also a necessary part of the body's production of collagen which is the fiber that makes tissues strong and elastic. Thus the use of Vitamin C in a daily skin care program is thought to help make your skin look full and firm. Taking care of your skin should also be one of the

biggest concerns of men since their incidence of melanoma is far greater than that of women and they are starting to spend more and more time in the tanning salons. Although men have the greatest statistical incidence of melanoma some dermatologists fear that the popularity of sun tanning beds in the female population may be bringing with it an increased development of melanoma in women. With the passage of time there may be an alarming tendency of young women to develop the sometimes fatal disease. One thing is certain though, UV rays whether from tanning beds or sun exposure is damaging in excessive amounts. Furthermore, when the sun is involved sun screen really is mandatory for prevention of its damaging effects both medical and cosmetic. But even with the best preventative measures time does take its toll. Solar radiation, pollution and exposure to various toxins damage the cells prematurely aging the skin and the natural aging process leads to a reduced production of collagen. For some corrective measures may be required. Many approaches and strategies are used in the time reversal strategy known as skin care. Alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) are a popular ingredient in many over the counter skin care products. The theory being that the acids peel away the outermost layer of skin exposing the new softer tissues underneath and the skin appears to renew and rejuvenate. Vitamins can be absorbed through the skin in creams and lotions, particularly Vitamins A and D. Vitamin C can be absorbed by the skin but the best form is one called L-ascorbic acid. This is a product that breaks down very easily especially in sunlight giving it a short shelf life. It is important to buy small amounts in dark colored or brown bottles and keep it in a dark storage place. This works by being absorbed into the epidermis and promoting the production of collagen. It also works as an antioxidant by neutralizing free radicals in the body. Because of its absorption this form of Vitamin C will not wash away but remain in the skin. Dry Skin Care

Dry skin is one of the most common skin ailments faced by people everywhere in the world. Dry Skin can be genetic or can be caused by severe weather conditions or by usage of chemical cosmetics or soaps.
In the event the skin ailment is severe as is in the case of psoriasis and eczema, the best option is to consult a physician. Medicines for such ailments must not be self-prescribed and must be only bought under the physicians advice.

If the skin is dry due to external conditions, ensuring to take a few precautions can rectify the condition. In the case of a heating system being constantly used at home, it is wise to use a humidifier. Avoid excessive sweating and scratchy clothes as these might case the dry skin to itch.

One important remedy that can easily be followed is to drink lots of water. At least two quarts of water have to be taken in per day if the skin is dry. This prevents the skin from dehydrating. The other option would be to take in lots of food containing vitamins A and B.

One sure thing that dries the skin is soaking in water. It is advised to take bath only in lukewarm water, as either hot or cold water would remove the natural oils and dry the skin.

Chemical soaps also play a big part in removing natural oils. Mild soaps or cleansers would work better on the skin. If the skin is excessively dry, it is better opt for oil-based soaps and cleansers rather than for water based ones. People should opt to use non-perfumed cleansers as they are milder compared to perfumed ones.

After taking a bath, it is wise to towel dry with gentle patting rather than vigorous wiping. This ensures the moisture is still retained in the skin to some extent.

It is also a good idea to apply moisturizer right after the bath. Some moisturizers can be applied on wet skin to retain excess moisture and can be used in case of a severely dry skin. Also, people who are exposed to the sun a lot can use a good moisturizing sunscreen.

Frequent oil massage also replenishes the body oils. Regular cleansing gives the dry skin a revitalized look. Body oil can be applied on the wet skin right after bath to give the skin a youthful look.

what is Cancer?

Cancer is a class of diseases characterized by out-of-control cell growth. There are over 100 different types of cancer, and each is classified by the type of cell that is initially affected.
Cancer is a class of diseases characterized by out-of-control cell growth. There are over 100 different types of cancer, and each is classified by the type of cell that is initially affected.

More dangerous, or malignant, tumors form when two things occur:

1. a cancerous cell manages to move throughout the body using the blood or lymph systems, destroying healthy tissue in a process called invasion
2. that cell manages to divide and grow, making new blood vessels to feed itself in a process called angiogenesis.

When a tumor successfully spreads to other parts of the body and grows, invading and destroying other healthy tissues, it is said to have metastasized. This process itself is called metastasis, and the result is a serious condition that is very difficult to treat.

In 2007, cancer claimed the lives of about 7.6 million people in the world. Physicians and researchers who specialize in the study, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of cancer are called oncologists.
What causes cancer?

Cancer is ultimately the result of cells that uncontrollably grow and do not die. Normal cells in the body follow an orderly path of growth, division, and death. Programmed cell death is called apoptosis, and when this process breaks down, cancer begins to form. Unlike regular cells, cancer cells do not experience programmatic death and instead continue to grow and divide. This leads to a mass of abnormal cells that grows out of control.

Genes - the DNA type

Cells can experience uncontrolled growth if there are damages or mutations to DNA, and therefore, damage to the genes involved in cell division. Four key types of gene are responsible for the cell division process: oncogenes tell cells when to divide, tumor suppressor genes tell cells when not to divide, suicide genes control apoptosis and tell the cell to kill itself if something goes wrong, and DNA-repair genes instruct a cell to repair damaged DNA.

Cancer occurs when a cell's gene mutations make the cell unable to correct DNA damage and unable to commit suicide. Similarly, cancer is a result of mutations that inhibit oncogene and tumor suppressor gene function, leading to uncontrollable cell growth.
Carcinogens

Carcinogens are a class of substances that are directly responsible for damaging DNA, promoting or aiding cancer. Tobacco, asbestos, arsenic, radiation such as gamma and x-rays, the sun, and compounds in car exhaust fumes are all examples of carcinogens. When our bodies are exposed to carcinogens, free radicals are formed that try to steal electrons from other molecules in the body. Theses free radicals damage cells and affect their ability to function normally.
Genes - the family type

Cancer can be the result of a genetic predisposition that is inherited from family members. It is possible to be born with certain genetic mutations or a fault in a gene that makes one statistically more likely to develop cancer later in life.

Other medical factors
As we age, there is an increase in the number of possible cancer-causing mutations in our DNA. This makes age an important risk factor for cancer. Several viruses have also been linked to cancer such as: human papillomavirus (a cause of cervical cancer), hepatitis B and C (causes of liver cancer), and Epstein-Barr virus (a cause of some childhood cancers). Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) - and anything else that suppresses or weakens the immune system - inhibits the body's ability to fight infections and increases the chance of developing cancer.
What are the symptoms of cancer?

Cancer symptoms are quite varied and depend on where the cancer is located, where it has spread, and how big the tumor is. Some cancers can be felt or seen through the skin - a lump on the breast or testicle can be an indicator of cancer in those locations. Skin cancer (melanoma) is often noted by a change in a wart or mole on the skin. Some oral cancers present white patches inside the mouth or white spots on the tongue.

Other cancers have symptoms that are less physically apparent. Some brain tumors tend to present symptoms early in the disease as they affect important cognitive functions. Pancreas cancers are usually too small to cause symptoms until they cause pain by pushing against nearby nerves or interfere with liver function to cause a yellowing of the skin and eyes called jaundice. Symptoms also can be created as a tumor grows and pushes against organs and blood vessels. For example, colon cancers lead to symptoms such as constipation, diarrhea, and changes in stool size. Bladder or prostate cancers cause changes in bladder function such as more frequent or infrequent urination.

As cancer cells use the body's energy and interfere with normal hormone function, it is possible to present symptoms such as fever, fatigue, excessive sweating, anemia, and unexplained weight loss. However, these symptoms are common in several other maladies as well. For example, coughing and hoarseness can point to lung or throat cancer as well as several other conditions.

When cancer spreads, or metastasizes, additional symptoms can present themselves in the newly affected area. Swollen or enlarged lymph nodes are common and likely to be present early. If cancer spreads to the brain, patients may experience vertigo, headaches, or seizures. Spreading to the lungs may cause coughing and shortness of breath. In addition, the liver may become enlarged and cause jaundice and bones can become painful, brittle, and break easily. Symptoms of metastasis ultimately depend on the location to which the cancer has spread.
How is cancer classified?

There are five broad groups that are used to classify cancer.

1. Carcinomas are characterized by cells that cover internal and external parts of the body such as lung, breast, and colon cancer.
2. Sarcomas are characterized by cells that are located in bone, cartilage, fat, connective tissue, muscle, and other supportive tissues.
3. Lymphomas are cancers that begin in the lymph nodes and immune system tissues.
4. Leukemias are cancers that begin in the bone marrow and often accumulate in the bloodstream.
5. Adenomas are cancers that arise in the thyroid, the pituitary gland, the adrenal gland, and other glandular tissues.

Cancers are often referred to by terms that contain a prefix related to the cell type in which the cancer originated and a suffix such as -sarcoma, -carcinoma, or just -oma. Common prefixes include:

* Adeno- = gland
* Chondro- = cartilage
* Erythro- = red blood cell
* Hemangio- = blood vessels
* Hepato- = liver
* Lipo- = fat
* Lympho- = white blood cell
* Melano- = pigment cell
* Myelo- = bone marrow
* Myo- = muscle
* Osteo- = bone
* Uro- = bladder
* Retino- = eye
* Neuro- = brain

How is cancer diagnosed and staged?
cancer. Imaging techniques such as X-rays, CT scans, MRI scans, PET scans, and ultrasound scans are used regularly in order to detect where a tumor is located and what organs may be affected by it. Doctors may also conduct an endoscopy, which is a procedure that uses a thin tube with a camera and light at one end, to look for abnormalities inside the body.

Extracting cancer cells and looking at them under a microscope is the only absolute way to diagnose cancer. This procedure is called a biopsy. Other types of molecular diagnostic tests are frequently employed as well. Physicians will analyze your body's sugars, fats, proteins, and DNA at the molecular level. For example, cancerous prostate cells release a higher level of a chemical called PSA (prostate-specific antigen) into the bloodstream that can be detected by a blood test. Molecular diagnostics, biopsies, and imaging techniques are all used together to diagnose cancer.

After a diagnosis is made, doctors find out how far the cancer has spread and determine the stage of the cancer. The stage determines which choices will be available for treatment and informs prognoses. The most common cancer staging method is called the TNM system. T (1-4) indicates the size and direct extent of the primary tumor, N (0-3) indicates the degree to which the cancer has spread to nearby lymph nodes, and M (0-1) indicates whether the cancer has metastasized to other organs in the body. A small tumor that has not spread to lymph nodes or distant organs may be staged as (T1, N0, M0), for example.

TNM descriptions then lead to a simpler categorization of stages, from 0 to 4, where lower numbers indicate that the cancer has spread less. While most Stage 1 tumors are curable, most Stage 4 tumors are inoperable or untreatable.
How is cancer treated?

Cancer treatment depends on the type of cancer, the stage of the cancer (how much it has spread), age, health status, and additional personal characteristics. There is no single treatment for cancer, and patients often receive a combination of therapies and palliative care. Treatments usually fall into one of the following categories: surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, hormone therapy, or gene therapy.
Surgery

Surgery is the oldest known treatment for cancer. If a cancer has not metastasized, it is possible to completely cure a patient by surgically removing the cancer from the body. This is often seen in the removal of the prostate or a breast or testicle. After the disease has spread, however, it is nearly impossible to remove all of the cancer cells. Surgery may also be instrumental in helping to control symptoms such as bowel obstruction or spinal cord compression.

Radiation
Radiation treatment, also known as radiotherapy, destroys cancer by focusing high-energy rays on the cancer cells. This causes damage to the molecules that make up the cancer cells and leads them to commit suicide. Radiotherapy utilizes high-energy gamma-rays that are emitted from metals such as radium or high-energy x-rays that are created in a special machine. Early radiation treatments caused severe side-effects because the energy beams would damage normal, healthy tissue, but technologies have improved so that beams can be more accurately targeted. Radiotherapy is used as a standalone treatment to shrink a tumor or destroy cancer cells (including those associated with leukemia and lymphoma), and it is also used in combination with other cancer treatments.
Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy utilizes chemicals that interfere with the cell division process - damaging proteins or DNA - so that cancer cells will commit suicide. These treatments target any rapidly dividing cells (not necessarily just cancer cells), but normal cells usually can recover from any chemical-induced damage while cancer cells cannot. Chemotherapy is generally used to treat cancer that has spread or metastasized because the medicines travel throughout the entire body. It is a necessary treatment for some forms of leukemia and lymphoma. Chemotherapy treatment occurs in cycles so the body has time to heal between doses. However, there are still common side effects such as hair loss, nausea, fatigue, and vomiting. Combination therapies often include multiple types of chemotherapy or chemotherapy combined with other treatment options.
Immunotherapy

Immunotherapy aims to get the body's immune system to fight the tumor. Local immunotherapy injects a treatment into an affected area, for example, to cause inflammation that causes a tumor to shrink. Systemic immunotherapy treats the whole body by administering an agent such as the protein interferon alpha that can shrink tumors. Immunotherapy can also be considered non-specific if it improves cancer-fighting abilities by stimulating the entire immune system, and it can be considered targeted if the treatment specifically tells the immune system to destroy cancer cells. These therapies are relatively young, but researchers have had success with treatments that introduce antibodies to the body that inhibit the growth of breast cancer cells. Bone marrow transplantation (hematopoetic stem cell transplantation) can also be considered immunotherapy because the donor's immune cells will often attack the tumor or cancer cells that are present in the host.
Hormone therapy

Several cancers have been linked to some types of hormones, most notably breast and prostate cancer. Hormone therapy is designed to alter hormone production in the body so that cancer cells stop growing or are killed completely. Breast cancer hormone therapies often focus on reducing estrogen levels (a common drug for this is tamoxifen) and prostate cancer hormone therapies often focus on reducing testosterone levels. In addition, some leukemia and lymphoma cases can be treated with the hormone cortisone.
Gene therapy

The goal of gene therapy is to replace damaged genes with ones that work to address a root cause of cancer: damage to DNA. For example, researchers are trying to replace the damaged gene that signals cells to stop dividing (the p53 gene) with a copy of a working gene. Other gene-based therapies focus on further damaging cancer cell DNA to the point where the cell commits suicide. Gene therapy is a very young field and has not yet resulted in any successful treatments.
How can cancer be prevented?

Cancers that are closely linked to certain behaviors are the easiest to prevent. For example, choosing not to smoke tobacco or drink alcohol significantly lower the risk of several types of cancer - most notably lung, throat, mouth, and liver cancer. Even if you are a current tobacco user, quitting can still greatly reduce your chances of getting cancer.

Skin cancer can be prevented by staying in the shade, protecting yourself with a hat and shirt when in the sun, and using sunscreen. Diet is also an important part of cancer prevention since what we eat has been linked to the disease. Physicians recommend diets that are low in fat and rich in fresh fruits and vegetables and whole grains.

Certain vaccinations have been associated with the prevention of some cancers. For example, many women receive a vaccination for the human papillomavirus because of the virus's relationship with cervical cancer. Hepatitis B vaccines prevent the hepatitis B virus, which can cause liver cancer.

Some cancer prevention is based on systematic screening in order to detect small irregularities or tumors as early as possible even if there are no clear symptoms present. Breast self-examination, mammograms, testicular self-examination, and Pap smears are common screening methods for various cancers.
